Each year the Ministry of Education allocates six days to every school in BC for the purpose of Professional Development for staff. Classes will not be in session on these days and parents will be notified well in advance of these occurrences. Please refer to the school calendar for specific dates from year to year.

Saplings will closely follow the yearly calendar of nearby school districts in order to simplify dates for parents with children at other schools. This calendar outlines all holidays, start and end dates, professional days and statutory holidays. In accordance with these districts, Saplings will arrange to have:

  • One (1) in-school professional development day to provide teachers with an opportunity to participate in discussions and activities that that focus on both of the following:

(a) enhancing Indigenous student achievement;

(b) integrating Indigenous world views and perspectives into learning environments.

  • One (1) in-school professional development day tol provide teachers with an opportunity to participate in discussions and activities that in the board’s opinion, develop evidence-based approaches to one or more of the following:

(a) Indigenous education;

(b) implementation of curriculum;

(c) sexual orientation and gender identity;

(d) student mental health.

  • One (1) curriculum implementation day, during which teachers will participate in discussions and activities that develop evidence-based approaches to the implementation of the curriculum documents
  • Three (3) district professional development days where teachers will attend learning sessions at other school whenever possible, and
  • Four (4) staff collaboration dates per school year (shortened days for students).
